Just One Please........

So day two of our three day fishing adventure begins at around noon in Mission Bay. My Tio Andy and I decided to bring our buddy Luis out for his second time yak fishing. The tide was changing which gave us water movement and usually keeps the fish active right? Wrong! We were trying everything from jigs with gulp to spinners and live ghost shrimp but we couldn't get a nibble if our lives depended on it. We were moving from spot to spot trying to get something going but it just seemed hopeless. So we go to the same bridge as last time it's the one just before or east of the jetty. I'm casting out my jig with a glow in the dark gulp mullet by the pylon. The waters moving so fast under the bridge that I'm doing more paddling then fishing. Then I thought to myself what the hell am I doing I got an anchor! So I throw that out and it only slows down my drift but it worked because two cast after that I hook up. HELL YEEEAAAH! I start reeling this baby in and wouldn't you know my first Calico. It was awesome. Now let me just say that the initial bite made me think it would be at least a pound and a half but when I pulled it in the boat the little guy must of been four inches. Even though it was small it's always cool when you catch a species you've never caught before. After that It's dead for hours not one of us is getting anything. We go from that bridge to Fisherman's Channel and back with out getting a bite. I'm pitching near rocks, I try the grass lines, I'm working sandy areas and nothing. I mean absolutely nothing. So in a last effort we go to this small marina with rental pedal and sail boats. The dock comes out and turns at a 90 degree angle making a little cove like area. I got a drop shot out with live ghost shrimp on it and I'm working a jig at the same time. No takers. Luis decides to leave that spot and go work the rocks that were near by. Maybe a half hour in he hooks up on an Opal Eye then a Mackerel back to back.So my tio and I decide to go over there and give it a shot. Nothing. As we are headed back to where we launched from my tio is trying everything not to get skunked. I'm trying everything to catch at least one more to catch up with Luis. They call it a day I cast one last time and BAM! OH YEAH BABY! I reel in a croaker that had orange stripes from tail to head. It was awesome. Ending the day with a catch on the last cast is killer. The day ended up being Me-2, Luis-2, Tio Andy-0. First time I seen that happen. I think it's just slowing down because of season and temperature. I remember this summer we weren't leaving with less than 8-10 keepers each! Tomorrow I'll tell you about the last day of our adventure. Until then good luck fishing!
